![]() ![]() I'm looking for the voice of experience, to help me stand on the shoulders of giants. Is using wake on lan a good idea, or something to be avoided. We have an electricity bill we'd like to reduce. Now create the config file /.my. Many questions, any help, as always, is very much appreciated. To run MySQL commands without entering password on the terminal, you can store your user and password in the /.my.cnf user specific configuration file in user’s home directory as described below. Do I have to do something with chkconfig so that my ethtool tweak is persistent? I even modifed the sleepers /etc/init.d directory so that it contains an executable file called wol.sh, but as the sleeper didn't reboot, I'm not sure that even worked. ![]() ![]() So, with the above information in mind, where would you start in order to figure out why my ether-wake isn't waking the sleeper? So I had to pull the power cable to get it backup. 1 You do not need root complete access, you just need root to setup sudo once to allow some given user to run yum through sudo yum to get root access when running it. The thing is, I wasn't able to get a monitor onto the sleeper, or a keyboard, I thought I'd setup the remoteMachine, by using ethertool to set Wake-on to g, which is supposed to mean it'll repond to the MagicPacket. I configured both nics to wake on lan using the g option. The sleeper has two nics, but only one with cable. Get your enthernet device name with nmcli and replace enp9s0 with your device. It is best to log in as a normal unprivileged user and to only use root's powers as required. Went down, but didn't come back up when I used ether-wake 00:11:22:etc:etc: For future reference, to enable wake on lan on boot for an ethernet device in centos.
